Advocacy and Policy Development

This Programme seeks to contribute to the creation of an asylum environment where refugees and other forced migrants enjoy their rights and live in dignity. It focuses on three thematic areas, which include: Policy Influence; Capacity Building; and Protection Monitoring.

Key activities under these thematic areas include:

  • Lobbying the Government to develop and enact progressive laws and policies that protect and assist refugees, IDPs and other forced migrants
  • Identifying key protection concerns for refugees and other forced migrants and developing advocacy strategies
  • Networking with various national, regional and international institutions and processes to leverage advocacy actions for persons of concern
  • Capacity building of various state and non-state actors on protection of refugees and other forced migrants
  • Creating awareness among various state and non-state actors on the plight of displaced persons
  • Conducting protection monitoring visits to various transit routes and border areas to identify key protection challenges and trends, which then inform our advocacy strategies and interventions
  • Monitoring compliance of state actors with the national, regional and international instruments regarding the protection of refugees and other forced migrants
