Quick Impact Projects - Paralegal and Alternative
Dispute Resolution Training Project in Kakuma Refugee
Camp
RCK has in the past year implemented a Paralegal and
Alternative Dispute Resolution Project in Kakuma Refugee
Camp. The one year project funded by Primate World Relief
and Development Fund targets Sudanese Refugees who are
preparing to return home following the signing of The
Comprehensive Peace Agreement in early 2005 in Nairobi,
Kenya.
The objectives of the project are to equip Sudanese
refugees with basic legal and dispute resolution skills
that will enable them fit into their new social environments
better when they return home. The project also aims
to ensure that the rights and welfare of refugees are
protected prior to, during and after repatriation.
The project is in cognizance of the fact that South
Sudan has the arduous task of building a formal justice
system which respects concepts of human rights and modern
law. A new generation of legal professionals will be
critical for the success of the process.
