RCK has been partnering with the Refugees Studies Centre (RSC) of Oxford University to provide displaced persons with an opportunity to have a say in matters that affect them. Previous stories have been featured in our newsletters.

In 2010 – 2011, the project aims to give IDPs a voice to be heard, thus giving them a chance to air their concerns. Although many IDPs from the post election violence (PEV) in Kenya during 2007/2008 have been resettled, some still languish in transitional camps far away from the public eye, making them invisible to most Kenyans. By talking to such people and documenting their concerns, this gives them a chance to be heard and eventually alleviate their living conditions. The project will culminate in a booklet detailing the silent voices of IDPs in four sub-clusters common in Kenya. These clusters are: IDPs arising from post election violence (PEV); IDPs evicted due to development projects such as reforestation initiatives (Mau forest evictees); IDPs caused by natural disasters e.g. drought and flooding and IDPs caused by social conflicts caused by the fight over scarce resources such as water and land.
