Does RCK offer assistance to refugees living outside the camps?
Answer
RCK assists all refugees and asylum seekers that approach the Legal aid clinic provided that they have sought or are seeking recognition as a refugee with UNHCR in line with the existing procedural structures notwithstanding that their documentation may indicate their place of residence as any of the designated camps. This is in recognition of the fact that not all refugees and asylum seekers may make it to stay in the camps for varied but justifiable reasons. RCK however recognises that the Government's policy on refugee management in Kenya is that of encampment and encourages refugees who have no reasons to be outside the camp to stay there, as they are more likely to access assistance of all forms in the camps. A human rights and social justice approach are the cornerstones of RCKs work.
